Regular Curriculum
Our curriculum is made up of a base style of Shorinji Ryu Karate with some elements of I.T.F. Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jui Jitsu to enhance it. Shorinji Ryu is a modern form of karate that has evolved through the years.
Our regular curriculum is based upon 2 classes a week, Kata and Self Defense/Sparring. "Kata" is a Japanese term meaning "form". A Kata is a series of movements put together in order to simulate a fight. In this more modern form of Karate, we teach Kata as a tool to learn, practice and get exercise. Each belt has it's own Kata's which need to be learned and presented in order to acquire your next level.
Caissie Karate teaches Self Defense in order to equip all students with the knowledge and ability to defend themselves in unforeseen situations of harm. We learn a variety of techniques to escape from predators as well as submit your opponent in a ground battle. It is important to us to teach proper moves in order to ensure the safety of all our students in any situation. Some techniques include escapes from wrist grabs, shoulder grabs and chokes. We also practice grappling (ground fighting), which we use to incorporate Brazilian Jui Jitsu.
Our continuous sparring classes, gives students the opportunity to learn how to fight and think on their feet. Students do not actually begin Free Sparring until reaching Orange belt. This way they have a background of the techniques and movements as well as concepts of fighting before being put into the ring with an opponent. Safety is our number one concern, and along with the physical aspect of Karate, comes spiritual and psychological guidance. This is available to students 5 years of age and up.
